Students in the 6th grade will collaborate with students in various countries to research the ancient civilizations of the world. The students will work together to learn about the rich history and culture of the early societies that populated our earth. The students will engage in discussions that will shed light on the impact these early civilizations have on modern day culture.
The following ancient civilizations will be the the focus of our study:
Ancient Middle East: Mesopotamia (Babylon, Assyria, Sumeria), Phoenicia, & Persia
Kingdoms of Ancient Africa: Egypt, Nubia, Great Zimbabwe, Kush, etc.
Ancient East Asia: India, China, Japan
Ancient Latin America: Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas
Ancient Europe: Greece and Rome
This project seeks to answer the following questions:
1. How did the landforms of an area shape the social, political, and economic characteristcs of early civilizations?
2. How did the Ancient Society develop?
3. What religious traditions developed in ancient civilizations?
4. What forms of language and writing developed in ancient civilizations?
5. Why was it important for early civilizations to settle near water and fertile soil?
6. Are there lasting impacts from early civilizations on modern civilizations and if so, what are they and what is their significance?
